AS2: Task 3: Requirements for a production

Requirements for a production

Our task is to comprehensively explain the requirements for our production (what things you need) and where/how we are going to find them.

As a student producing an advertisement that is 30 seconds long we must find our about each of the following things before we can start a practical production. It is very important to find our about all of these information because this is part of being a market researcher that also produces an advert. Each of these following will allow us to give more idea of what we are doing like for example, there are still some few things that we don't know about that we need and its a must to know before we produce our advert to the audience.

Technical Equipment:
Technical equipment includes what equipment we will be needing on the day we will be producing our film. It also includes where we will be getting our equipment from, for example, family, friends, buying it, borrowing. It also includes how much it would cost to hire these equipment for. Also, this includes the days how long we will be filming for and how long the shots are going to take.

Equipment needed:

  • Clothes- Clothes that we will be wearing on the day of filming and the clothes that we will be wearing when cat-walking
  • Hair coloured spray- On the day when we will be filming we are planning to spray our hair to show our theme and since its Elite Spring Collection we have to be spring-like.
  • Camera- To record our film we will need a camera. This camera can then be connected to a computer which will then allows us to edit our video to turn it into a 30 second advert.
  • Tripod-  To make sure our camera will be kept safe and the camera position won't be wonky we are to place it on the tripod which will then allows us to move around the camera without taking it out from the tripod. Also the tripod can be adjusted, for example, if we wanted to have a higher view from the camera we can just adjust it.
  • Speaker (Optional)- Using speaker is optional our filming because we will be cat-walking and not much noise will be heard.
Where to get the equipment:
  • Clothes- The clothes will be provided by the staff (Jasmine, Samuel, Allegria, Bradley and I) we will be bringing our own clothes therefore we don't need to hire costumes just for this advert.
  • Hair coloured spray- This idea came from Jasmine and she will be providing the hair coloured spray therefore we don't need to buy one or borrow one.
  • Camera- The camera will be provided by our teachers which includes everything.
  • Tripod- The tripod is also provided by our teachers therefore we don't need to worry about where we can borrow them.
  • Speaker (Optional)- Speaker can also be provided by our teachers.
Cost to Hire:
  • Clothes- The clothes will cost nothing since we won't be hiring any costumes for the day of filming
  • Hair Coloured Spray- will also cost nothing as it is already provided by one of our members, Jasmine.
  • Camera, Tripod and Speaker: The camera set won't cost nothing either as our teacher will let us borrow them but we have to make sure we use it carefully and before we get to borrow these sets we are to sign in so that our teacher knows who have borrowed it.
If however we didn't manage to have one or two of these equipment, for example, we didn't have enough hair coloured spray or we forgot to bring it on the day we can always just cancel using it or if we really like the idea of having a hair coloured spray we can always edit it via app or online. Also, if the we didn't get to borrow a camera at school or there weren't any left we can always ask our family members if we can borrow their camera and if somehow they didn't have one or they didn't let us borrow one we can always use our phone since there are now apps that lets us record a video and edit it therefore we won't be needing to hire anything.
Days of Filming:
My group and I have discuss roughly how many days it will take for us to film our video. We had said that around two days would be enough to finish our video. The reason for this is that since we will be doing cat-walk it will look much better to have more than the clothes we will be wearing so that it will show that it really is a cat-walk advert. We also decided that we will bring more than one coloured hair spray because it will be in two different days and it will look much better to have different colour on the day.

Duration of each shots:
Each shots will roughly take around one to three minutes when filming it since we are planning to take a pause each time a person enters the stage. It will take roughly 24 minutes over all for each shots. However, taking shots will be as quick and easy as we think. Since there will be silliness involved when filming therefore it will take longer. Also there will be time when one person laughs or decided to run away from the camera when being filmed.

Potential Filming Locations:
For our cat-walking/ modelling advertisement we can film in the classroom where we can just move the table and chairs around but we will have to ask for permission first from the teacher whom the classroom belongs to. We can also film in the corridor since it is narrow enough for one person to catwalk however since its narrow we won't be able to add the first shot in our storyboard that we had planned because 5 people will not be able to fit in a small corridor when lining up in a straight line.  If somehow we decided to film it in the corridor we will need lots of permission from all the teachers that are near that corridor because they might be having lesson at that time and we might distract them by making to much noises. We can also use the gym or the hall since they are big and wide and there might be a stage there.

Location:
Each of these locations said in potential filming locations can be found at the school premises. To get there we can just walk and we will get there within few minutes depends on where you are standing right now and to the location you are going to.
Getting to these places might cause problem. It can either be that its time for the students to get to their next lessons or its their break/lunch time. If the problem is not on getting there it could then be that while we are filming the bell might then ring and everyone decided to rush out the classroom in where they can be included in our video which will then cause problem for us because waiting for them to get to their next lesson will take time.

Actors and Actresses:
For our advertisement we will need actors and actresses that are willing to model for us. The model can be male or female and the age for them to be for them to participate is ages between 13-21'ish. The reason for this is because our target audience are teenagers, young adults and mid 20's therefore we must have a model that are in between these ages. We won't be having any auditions or any screen test just to choose our model we have decided who will be our cast members and they are the people from my group, Allegria, Samuel, Jasmine, Bradley and I.
If we do hire a well known actor we will need to pay them at least £40-60 because first of all this is not a proper advertisement that can be seen on Television secondly we won't be able to pay them as much as there producer does therefore this will be a price we can offer to them. To avoid having to pay an incredible much amount of money it will be better to hire a an unknown and unpaid actors and actresses such as friends or family members that we know who does performing arts or drama or acting and or modelling.  These unknown and unpaid actors and actresses will do a good job even though they won't get paid because if they have passion for such things like modelling they would be willing to help us and would produce a better outcome than we thought we would.

Costume and Props:
Like said in 'equipment needed' here are what we will be needing on the day:
  • Clothes
  • Hair coloured spray
  • Accessorise
From what I had also said in 'equipment needed' (above this blog) is that these costumes and props that we will be needed on the day would be provided from our own house therefore we don't need to buy anything unless we would want to include something that would make our advertisement more eye-catchy and interesting.
We won't be needing to store any of our costumes and props since we will be bringing them along with us on the day or we would be wearing them already as we arrive on location.

AS2: Task 2: Ideas Generation

                                  Ideas Generation

Elite Spring Collection

The advert that we will be creating for our Elite Spring Collection will also have the features other television advert have including each of the following:

  • Form (stand alone, series, animation, documentary, etc.)
  • Style (humour, shock, sex appeal, etc..)
  • USP- Unique Selling Point
Form:
The Form that we thought we could do for our Elite Spring Collection advert is stand alone. The reason for this is that there won't be any other company who will thought of having the same advertisement that has already been out. This type of advertisement such as fashion modelling or catwalk is really effective in terms of having audience to watch it. The reason for this is that most of these catwalk advertisement includes famous faces therefore they gain more viewers. Since we are not celebrities like Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne we won't be gaining as much viewers as MANGO does. However we will make our advert unique that will then make people watch it over and over again.

Style:
The style that we are having is a humour styled advert. This is what will make our advert gain more audiences in terms of numbers of viewers. Using this style in a modelling/ catwalk advertisement will make our advert 'unique' and this could also be one of the unique selling point (USP) for our product since there are barely advertisements out there that is a humour styled advert.

Content:
The idea that we are planning to use for our advert is that while everyone (Jasmine, Allegria, Bradley, Samuel and I) are cat-walking in the corridor there will be an accident that  will occur. We were thinking of having Samuel to tripped over while he is cat-walking. This will be the humour style of our advert.

Target Audience:
We were planning to have our target audience ages between 13-21 basically teenagers, young adults and mid adults.

Advert Appeals:
Our advert will appeal to our audience especially teenagers between 15-17 because since we are including humour on it teenagers will finding it interesting and amusing that will then make them watch it over and over again. Our advert will also appeal to female audiences since we will be wearing styleable spring clothing that will then catches their eye.

USP (unique selling point)
The USP for our product will be, low cost high quality brand. The reason for this is that our product is a high quality brand but we are having it a low cost price so that other people will be able to afford it. The prices won't be that low for example, £50-100, we will be having it around £101-300.

This is the story board that we have created for the back up plan location in where we will have our advert layed out. This is how we are going to film our advert. This storyboard tells us which scene will go first until the last scene. This will then help us on the day we will be filming because we don't need to worry about what comes next because we already dropped down our ideas. Also the story board tells us what shot we are having that scene. It could be a close shot, medium shot and long shot. Close shot is where the camera is positioned near to the person's faces in where we are able to see their faces clearly. Medium shot is where we get to see just half of the person. We can still see the person's faces clearly but not that clear as the close shot. And long shot is where we get to see other things than the person.

The first box is where everyone will be lining up in a straight line and we will have the camera as a long shot so that we will be able to see everyones faces from head to toe. The second box is where the first person enters the stage while others are at the back waiting for their turn. This will be both medium and long shot so that we can see the person first entering then after that we can move straight to medium shot we get a closer look on the model. The third box is where the first person was already in the side and the second person then enters. This scene will have the same camera shots. The fourth box is where two person are already at the front after having to model on stage already and the third person comes in and the rest are waiting. This too will have the same camera shots.

This the same storyboard as the previous storyboard (shown above) but this one is just the other half of the storyboard. This has the same lay out as the others. It shows the drawing of the scene and beside that includes the type of shot we will be having and below that are some notes to remind us what is happening in that drawing/scene.

The fifth box is where the third person had joined the first person on the front and the fourth person then enters the stage. This will have a long and medium shot like the rest of the scenes. The sixth box is where the fourth person was cat-walking but then he tripped over that gave the other models a confused look. This will be a close and medium shot because when the time the fourth person tripped over we would like to show what had happened and closer look is to show his face after tripping over. The seventh box is where the fourth person finally stood up after tripping over and continue on cat-walking. This will be medium and long shot. The last box is where the fourth person joined the second person on the front then the fifth person then enters. This will be a medium and long shot too.

This is the storyboard for the advert that we are going to produce. In shot 1 we are showing the location of the area by taking shots of the path which then represents spring. Shot 2 is where some of us are in the basketball court playing. This shows the summer time. Shot 3 goes back again to spring time where we then film some of us walking around the park. Shot 4 is back to summer time again in where we then close up the shot between the cast. Each of these shots will be 3 seconds long as we edit it. There are about 10 different shots that we had planned and each makes up to 3 seconds which is total of 30 seconds long overall.

This is the middle half of the storyboard that we have created. Shot 5 is back to where we are showing the area again. Shot 6 is where one person from our cast is standing in the basketball court while were taking a medium shot of that person. Shot 7 is where one person is then standing in the grass looking around the park but just standing. And shot 8 is where we then go back to showing the summer time by having a ball bouncing in the ground.

This is the other half of the storyboard. Shot 9 is where everyone are then walking in the park as an ensemble while others are looking at left and others are looking at the right. Shot 10 is where we then end our film by showing the clouds.

AS2: Task 1- Part 2: Market and Target Audience Research

Market and Target Audience Research

Target Audience Research:

To ensure that my advert is targeted at the right audience I have to first must use a range of research methods to identify who is the target audience for my client's product is.

To help us find out what sort of person is most likely to buy my product and therefore who your advert will need to target we use an online survey website called Survey Monkey at www.surveymonkey.com . Survey Monkey is where it allows you to create your very own questionnaire. In this questionnaire you can include sorts of questions you want to know to help you plan your advert.

Using this online survey website, Survey Monkey, we are to find out what likes and dislikes my target audience members have so then we can produce and advert that is attractive to them.

Using the online survey website, Survey Monkey, i have created my own survey that i would like to know about from my target audience and this survey will also help me and my group to improve our market research and to improve our product design. Here are the screen grabs of the survey that i created for our audience.

Create your own user feedback survey

This are the results of the informations my audience mostly prefers. These results will then help me and my group for improving our product when it comes to its look, features and other things.

This is the result for my first question. It tells us how many of the people who have answered my survey are male and female. We can see that there was more male audience who participated for answering this survey than female audience.

This is then the results for the ages of audience who have answered my survey. This information shows that ages between 17-23 have answered my survey. We can then use this information as part of our planning for our target audience. The target audience can then be mainly for ages between 14-18.

This information then shows what my audience prefers when buying clothes from a designer brand. And this shows that Hollister is the most well chosen designer brand for 13-23 years old.
This then tells us that Hollister is a popular brand for amongst ages therefore our product should reconsider having something quite similar to Hollister clothing.

In this section it tells the result for those what shop most people goes to and this result also includes which is the most popular shop clothing in our area.

If we were to create a catwalk for our advert we would catwalk while wearing mainly jeans and shirts/t-shirts because in the result shown at the left side that most people prefers jeans and shirt therefore we should consider their liking on our advert.

Market Research

Our advert needs to stand out amongst all the others currently on air for similar products. We are to carry out  market research we can have about our chosen product as much as we can. We are to do this by looking out a range of existing advertisement and see what the competition is doing.

This fashion film for MANGO Fall Winter 2015 featuring Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne is a talking head type of form of advert. The celebrities may not be talking about the product the company they are working sells but just by performing and modelling for that product is enough to gain lots of audience to watch it.

This a sex appeal and famous faces style advert. This advert uses sex appeal to grab the audiences attention, mainly women. This advert is also a famous faces style advert because it features two famous models whom are well known. This advert shows Moss and Delevingne modelling for the company, MANGO. The way the advert was edited was by having the two celebrities doing the same moves and using editing programs such as adobe premiere pro and whenever they reach the moves the other celebrity finished the other celebrity will then finishes the who moves by putting them two together. This advert also shows that MANGO is not only for young adults such as Cara Delevingne but also for adults such as Kate Moss. They show this by the way they present the advert to the audience.

This ZARA man advert is a stand alone type of form of advert. This is a stand alone type of form of advert because the models are modelling outside at that time of day whereas other clothing company would have their models modelling inside their own agency. This would then give other companies ideas to where they can have their models modelling rather than having it in the same area in where they just change the settings.

This is a sex appeal style of advert. This advert uses sex appeal to grab the audiences attention mainly men because this advert is advertising the ZARA men clothing therefore it would only suit for the men audiences. The effectiveness of this is that ZARA men audiences will notice this advert as the models are modelling one by one in different places.

This is are some of the resources where i had my information from for what type of style and form the advert is.

Form of Television Advertising

Animation:
A type of advertisement where everything is animated and everything is done in computer. We can have an animation that is in 2D or in 3D as the computer can do anything of those which can make everything lively and exciting.

Positive Effect:

The positive effect of an animation advert is that you create what would be possible in real life The age rate of the audience that mostly will like this type of advert are the younger ones and the teenagers. This is because they are still in the age where they still like animated clips, videos, films and movies.
For example, the clip (shown above) is effective as it is advertising a food that is quite popular in our age and not only that, it added a  little bit of story on to it which can make the audience be part of it. They can think that, by giving an Oreo to someone you like can change your love life since Oreo is loved by everyone.

Negative Effect:

The negative effect of this however is that this can take a long process of preparation before it got shown live. Also, it doesn't really excite or attract the adults as much as it does to the young generation. This is because the target audience mainly for animation adverts are for those who are ages under 14. If the animation advert wasn't appealing to the adults especially to the parents of those who will watch it they won't let their children to watch it especially if its unreliable or violent since parents won't let their children watch violent film especially violent adverts.

Talking heads:

Talking heads tend to have people talk about their product to gain more viewers and to give their positive opinion about the product they are trying to sell or positive opinion on their company. Mostly, the host that is presented to this type of adverts are usually famous people.

Positive Effect:

The positive effect of a talking head adverts is that it attracts more audience than the rest of the type of form of advertising. This is because talking heads adverts uses a famous celebrities to sell their product like the video shown above. This will make the audience watch this advert more often than the rest because it will have one or two of their favorite celebrities in this.

Negative Effect:

Having a famous celebrity to promote your product cost a lot of money as you will have to pay for them for promoting your products. Sometimes using a celebrity to promote a  company's product doesn't always work all the time as there is something about the advert that lacks something even though they have a famous celebrity with them.

Stand Alone:

Stand alone adverts is a form of advert that is one off. This means that there won't be any type of advert like this one that is produced by the same company. A stand alone adverts advertises a product or service that does not link with any other existing advertisement for that brand.

Positive Effect:

The positive effect of a stand alone adverts is that it's 'unique' as there are no other type of advert that is the same as this one. Therefore, audience mostly prefers a stand alone adverts than the rest as it is different and exciting to watch.

Negative Effect:

However, since stand alone adverts are different than most adverts it is more likely for it to be random like the video shown above. This is because its company is trying to produce a television advert that is different from the rest of its advertisement therefore they will pick a different  form of living being such as cats as the main character since there's not much television adverts that is about cats except when advertising for cat food.

Series:

This is an advertisement where it goes on and continues on. It could be that it has a different story   but the characters that are in it are still there.

Positive Effect:

The positive effect of a series advert is that it can excite its audience especially little kids especially if its a cartoon advert like the video above. This is a positive effect because there are some audience who likes watching 'these characters' therefore will be excited to watch it's new series of advert.

Negative Effect:

However, the negative of a series effect is that if some finds a series of advert as exciting some might think its annoying as it's the same character over and over again which will then can lead for the advert to have less audience as the audience will either ignore this advert whenever it comes up on the television or will either turn it off just to avoid listening, hearing and watching it again.

Style of Television Advert

Repetition:
This advert is repetition because throughout of other adverts, it uses the same name over and over again to make its name memorable. Many do react to this advert negatively as they find it annoying as it doesn't really make sense.

The style used in this advert is quite successful even though people  do find it annoying to watch it, but it's style help make its audience understand how prominent it is than other companies.

Sex appeal:
This advert uses sex appeal to grab the audience (mainly men) attention. In this advert, it shows a young man who is trying to reach out for the girl whom he likes but every time he tried to come near her when he sees her, something or someone always stops him or prevent him from talking to her. However, at the end of this advert when the young man uses the 'lynx' the girl whom he been trying to reach out automatically appeared  next to him. This shows that with 'Lynx' you can be with the girl you like.

The style used in this advert is appropriate for the product its trying to sell because Lynx is aimed at male audience, therefore they will take more notice of sex appeal than the other styles. This will then makes the advert very successful.

Famous Faces:
This advert uses famous faces (celebrities) to help promote its brand. They do this so that the audience will immediately recognise the celebrity and will then connect positive aspects to the celebrity with the brand such as Sky. Also, the type of celebrity these brands usually chose are those who are good role model such as David Beckham. We all know that David Beckham is a famous footballer and many do look up to him therefore brands such as Sky will portrayed him in this advert. Having a famous celebrity in your brand can make it more memorable for the audience to remember it.

This style for advertising is really effective especially for huge companies like Sky. This is because it can make their brand look good towards other  companies and it can help provide good services as famous faces use it.
